Civil Society Organisations Learn how to Plan Strategically

5 Jan 2024

On 19-20th December 2023, the Civic Resource Centre strengthened the capacities of civil society organisations (CSOs) for strategic planning. The workshop on this topic was held at the Resource Centre in Gostivar, as a follow-up activity to the online training on strategic planning, which was a precondition for participation in the workshop. The twenty participants increased their knowledge and skills for strategic planning and the direction in which their organisations want to move in the long term.

In order to get a precise and accurate overview of the situation of their organisations, the participants learned to practically apply the tools for internal and external analysis of the situation by using the Integrated Organisational Model, Stakeholder Analysis-Institutiogram, SWOT analysis and the strategic orientation matrix, and to use the obtained results as a basis for making decisions at a strategic level. They also worked on creating a vision and mission, as well as determining strategic priorities and long-term goals of their organisations.

“The workshop offered an extraordinary opportunity to quickly, methodically and clearly understand and learn the process of strategic planning,” said Dr. Nelko Nelkovski, President of Skopje – Metropola, Association for the Development of the City and Fund Foundation. “The acquired knowledge will be of great help in creating the new strategy of our organisation. We are very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this education,” he said. Kaltrina Tefiku from the Community Development Institute from Tetovo expressed her satisfaction with the way the workshop was conducted: “The workshop was very easy for me to follow. I honestly think that I can implement the ideas from this course in the professional world, especially as an employee of a CSO, but also in my private life. The trainer’s encouragement to participate in our discussions and be active in the practical exercises helped me a lot in getting involved in this workshop. The presentation was really good to follow and I found connections to other alternative processes of thinking,” she said.

After the workshop, the trained organisations will have the opportunity to conduct mentoring activities on this topic.

The workshop was organised within the project “EU support of the Civil Society Resource Centre – Phase 2”, financed by the European Union, and implemented by the National Civil Society Development Foundation – Civic Resource Centre, the Macedonian Centre for International Cooperation, Media Plus, Shtip and Association for Democratic Initiatives – ADI, Gostivar.
